Student Resource Scheme (SRS)
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is a user-charging scheme operated by schools to provide parents access to individual student resources not funded by the government. Each school develops their own SRS based on specific resources needed by their students and the programs they offer.
William Ross State High School’s Student Resource Scheme (SRS) provides essential learning resources through bulk purchasing and hire arrangements, helping families save time and money. Resources include textbooks, worksheets, student diaries, ID cards, online programs, and temporary use of subject-specific materials and equipment.
All funds collected are used solely to operate the scheme, which is approved annually by the school’s P&C Association.
SRS Participation
Participation in the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is optional and remains in place for the duration of your child’s enrolment unless changed. ALL student enrolments must include a completed participation agreement form.
Parents may opt in or out in future years by submitting a new Participation Agreement Form. Any
outstanding SRS fees from previous years in which the student participated in
the scheme remain payable. Opting out of the SRS does not cancel or waive fees
that were incurred while participating in the scheme. Year-level resource lists links are below.
Fees, Charges & Inclusions
The school’s SRS fee is based on a flat fee structure. Details of fees and included resources are available in the relevant SRS Resource List and on the school website.
The Textbook and Resource Allowance (TRA) is deducted from the SRS fee, reducing the amount payable. If the SRS cost is equal to the TRA, no fee is payable.
All resources included in the SRS are detailed in the SRS Resource list. This is a comprehensive list of all resources included in the scheme and their associated costs.
Extra Curricular & Recreational Activities
Optional extra-curricular and recreational activities, such as sports, performing arts, debating, excursions, social events and fundraising activities, are offered to enrich students’ educational experiences. Extra Curricular and Recreational Activities are not inckuded in the SRS.
Participation is voluntary, and fees are charged on a cost-recovery basis. Costs may include, venue hire, travel, insurance, officials and other activity-related expenses. Fees are based on participant numbers and are communicated to parents before the activity begins.
Students will not be prevented from participating in an activity that is part of the curriculum if their fees and charges have not been paid. A principal may decide to exclude a student from optional, non-curricular activities like school formals and camps if their fees and charges are unpaid.
Textbook and Resource Allowance
The Queensland Government provides a Textbook and Resource Allowance (TRA) to eligible students, paid directly to the school to help reduce the cost of participating in the Student Resource Scheme (SRS).
The allowance does not cover personal items such as textbooks, computers, musical instruments, or consumable classroom materials, which remain the responsibility of parents and carers.
Most students are eligible to receive the Textbook and Resource Allowance (TRA) once each year for up to six years, or for the duration of their enrolment at William Ross State High School.
Students are not eligible for the TRA if they:
- are enrolled as a full-fee paying international student or temporary visa holder
- are enrolled in a Centre for Continuing Secondary Education (CCSE)
- are undertaking part-time distance education through a non-state school accredited for distance education
- enrol after the first school day in August of the relevant year.
For more information about the TRA, visit the Department's website.
The 2026 TRA is.
Years 7 to 10 - $164
Years 11 to 12 - $357
Resources provided

Resources may include:
- Student-owned consumables - consumable items used in class by the students (e.g. industry technology, cooking ingredients, art and craft materials, stationery, exercise books, student diary).
- Student-owned non-consumables - these items are retained by the student and may be used over multiple years (e.g. scientific calculator, headphones, portable data storage device).
- Resources hired to students - these items are hired to the student for their personal use for a specific period (e.g. textbooks, musical instruments, laptops).
