Youth Support Coordinator – Supporting Student Engagement and Retention
At William Ross the Youth Support Coordinators role is to support retention and attainment of young people in Years 10 to 12 who have disengaged, or who are at risk of disengaging, from education. Our aim is for the students to remain engaged in their education, build confidence, and work towards their future goals—whether that involves completing school, pursuing further study, undertaking training, or entering the workforce.
Senior schooling is an exciting time, but it can also bring challenges and increased pressure. My role is to provide guidance and support, helping students navigate decisions about their future and access the assistance they need to succeed.
Youth Support Coordinators can support with:
Career planning and pathway exploration
Training, tertiary education, and apprenticeship opportunities
Employment readiness, including resumes, applications, and interview preparation
Goal setting and planning for future pathways
General guidance when students are unsure of their next steps
The primary purpose of the Youth Support Coordinator role is to remove barriers to learning by supporting students' wellbeing, engagement, attendance, and personal development, enabling them to achieve positive outcomes both at school and beyond.
