At
William Ross State High School we value all students and their specific
learning requirements.
As a
result we offer a Special Education Program that is designed to encourage the development of essential skills,
growth and lifelong learning.
Students identified to receive
support from the Special Education Program will be placed into classes that
provide modified curriculum and/or will participate in regular classes with the
assistance of extra classroom support if available.
Students are required to follow
the Australian Curriculum in the mandated subjects: English, Maths, Science,
Humanities and Health and Physical Education. The curriculum will be
differentiated to meet the needs of the individual student. Enrolment into the elective
classes will be by negotiation and discussed at the enrolment interview.
Services provided to students
with a recognised disability include:
- Student support in the classroom, with assessment
and homework
- Case management/ case co-ordination
- Liaising with parents/carers, Administration and teaching staff
- Liaising with other government departments
- Referral to support personnel (Advisory Teachers, Guidance Officers, School Nurse/ Chaplain, Youth Support worker, Community Education Counsellor), community agencies and programs
- Developing Individual Curriculum Plans/Support Plans
- Advocacy for students within the school and community
- Organising transition programs - primary to secondary, post school
SEP COMPUTER SKILLS - Recorded Subject

This
course will assist students to obtain basic computer skills required for the
workplace and personal use. The duration of the course is 3 years. This program
focuses on computer generated activities and is based on student’s level of
ability. Basic computer skills are learnt via a variety of computer programs.

Outdoor
Recreation provides opportunities for students to gain life skills and develop
confidence in themselves and their ability. The duration of the course is 3
years. A large part of the course is hands on – learning by doing. The
practical components of the course will be supported with course notes, theory
and ongoing evaluations.
