Mathematics
Mathematics
is a core subject in year 7, 8 & 9 and is studied by all students. The curriculum focuses on developing increasingly sophisticated
mathematical understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning as they move
through the junior secondary program.
English
English
is a core subject in year 7, 8 & 9 and is studied by all students. The study of English plays a key role in the development of
reading and literacy skills which helps young people develop the knowledge and
skills needed for education, training and the workplace.
Science
In Year 7, 8 and 9 Science
is a core subject. The Science program is designed to develop students'
interest in science and an appreciation of how science provides a means of
exploring and understanding the changing world in which they live. Through the
use of a ‘hands-on’ learning approach, students are engaged in a range of
contemporary activities that build their skills in creative problem solving,
scientific inquiry methods, critical data analysis and scientific literacy.
Humanities
Humanities
is a core subject in years 7, 8 & 9 and is studied by all students. Each
year students will study one semester of History and one semester of Geography.
The Geography units studied are categorised as either Human or Environmental
Geography. The History units of study are chronological; in Year 7 the focus is
Ancient History, Year 8 is Medieval History, Year 9 & 10 is Modern History.
Business
Business and economics is an elective subject and is embeded into Humanities in in Junior secondary. In Years 7 and 8 students study Business
and Economics, and Civics and citizenship for one term within Humanities, on a term-based rotation with History and geography. In middle school phase (Years 9 and 10) students elect to elect to study these subjects for the year. Business subjects in our Junior Secondary include: Business and economics, and Civics and Citizenship.
Digital
Technologies
Digital
Technologies is offered an an elective subject. Year 7 involves one term of
study, followed by one semester of study in Year 8. Students in Years 9
and 10 will elect to study Digital Technologies for the entire year. In Digital
Technologies students develop 21st Century skills including: problem solving, creativity, innovation and communication skills.
The Arts
In Year 7 students have the opportunity to
study Visual Arts, Arts Performance, Chinese and Japanese. Students will study
aspects such as the elements of design, performance skills, exhibitions, key
vocabulary and working collaboratively with others. In year 8, 9 and 10. Visual Arts, Drama,
Arts Performance, Creative Digital Media, Chinese and Japanese are elective
subjects. These subjects can be studied for one semester in year 8, or for the
whole of year 9 or year 10.
Health and Physical
Education
In Year 7, 8 and 9 Students develop the
knowledge, skills, processes and dispositions to promote health and wellbeing.
Students actively engage in physical activity and enhance personal development.
Throughout year 7, 8 and 9 students will learn about topics such as Adolescence,
Making Good Decisions, Relationships, Personal Development, Fitness, Healthy
Choices and Drug Education, Eating for Performance and Mental Health. They will
also engage in physical activities.
Practical Technology
In Practical Technology students
have the opportunity to study units such as; Our Food, Textile and Industrial
Technology subjects, as well as Graphics. Design and Technologies enables
students to become creative and responsive designers. These subjects actively
engage students in creating quality designed solutions for identified needs and
opportunities across a range of contexts. Students are required to manage
projects from concept to realisation through the practical application of
technologies including digital technologies such as 3D printing and laser
printing.
