Senior
Secondary
Students in their senior years of schooling
(years 10, 11 & 12) at William Ross State High School are emerging young
adults who have diverse needs and aspirations.
William Ross partners with James Cook University (JCU), Central Queensland
University (CQU) and Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to provide
valuable opportunities for students to enhance learning and prepare for
tertiary study.
As a Registered
Training Organisation (RTO), William Ross State High School also offers
vocational training courses (VET) in a range of subjects, including Engineering
and Digital Media, alongside courses from external RTO’s in Fitness, Sport and
Recreation, and Early Childhood Education and Care.
William Ross has a rich tradition of academic
achievement with many graduates going on to excel across a range of university
fields. High tertiary entrance
scores (OP) leading to University and TAFE offers, combined with 100% Queensland Certificate of Education
(QCE) completion are the accepted standard for our graduates.
New
Senior Schooling System
In 2019 a new
senior assessment and tertiary entrance arrangement will be introduced for students
across Queensland.
There are three key
changes:
- the introduction of
a new senior assessment model that combines school-based assessment (set and
marked by teachers), with external assessment (developed and marked by QCAA).
- the development of
new moderation processes to strengthen the quality and consistency of
school-based assessment.
- the removal of the Overall Position (OP) rank and introduction of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
In 2019,
year 12 students completing their senior studies will continue under the
current schooling system, which awards students who are eligible for university
entrance an OP (Overall Position) and Field Position. Students entering Year 11 in 2019 will commence their studies under the new schooling which is the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)
In 2020, the standard pathway to tertiary study
for Queensland Year 12’s will change from the Overall Position (OP) to the
Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
